The Basic Grip, or V Grip, is versatile for forehand shots and can occasionally be adapted for specific backhand shots.
Creating the “V” Shape:
Hold the racket handle with the thumb and the first finger, forming a “V” shape. The bottom of this “V” is a key point for correct grip positioning.
Finger and Thumb Placement:
The thumb should rest comfortably on the wider, flat side of the handle, while the index finger should be on the other side; the last three fingers should rest on the handle wrapping around towards the same side as the thumb, creating a loose and flexible hold.
Forehand Shots: Use the V Grip for forehand shots of serve, net shots, clears, drives, drop-shots, net lifts, blocks, and smashes.
